My work reflects personal experiences shaped by physical and social environments, exploring the interplay between structure and disarray. This piece captures a moment of transformation, where structure and spontaneity coexist to evoke a sense of curiosity. The three-dimensional grid, layered over vibrant, overlapping grids, reflects the push and pull between order and chaos that shapes my perception of the world.
Paper was chosen as the medium for its dual nature—fragile yet resilient, structured yet flexible. These qualities mirror the layered interactions in the work, where balance and gravity reveal how opposing forces can harmonize. The grids, though structured, are fluid, symbolizing the way inspiration emerges in unexpected moments of clarity.
Through this piece, I hope to preserve the feeling of discovering beauty in complexity—a universal experience that connects us across time, space, and perspective. It is an invitation to pause, reflect, and find meaning in the layers of the world around us.
Kait is the Assistant Professor of Art- Ceramics at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY. She received her BFA degree from Utah State University in 2010 with an emphasis in both ceramics and graphic design. She completed her MFA degree, emphasis in ceramics, at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the spring of 2016.
Her work is based on personal experiences that change depending on location and environment, physical as well as social. She responds to her surroundings and depicts this response visually. Her work fits into three basic categories: project based, sculptural, and utilitarian. While these categories are separated, they are connected through her approach to the making process.
Project-based work tends to revolve around a theme and individual pieces are not tied to one specific medium. The content dictates the medium–be that mixed media, ceramic, metals, or drawing. This work has a connecting concept meant to be seen as a whole, in addition to being appreciated individually.
Throughout her career she has maintained an active exhibition record showing work nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, and nontraditional venues. Most recently, in 2024, her work was exhibited in the exhibitions Put A Lid On It! at the Clay Arts Center in Port Chester New York, From the Earth at the Light Art Space gallery in Silver City New Mexico, and Mugshot: Artistic Drinking Vessels at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Arvada Colorado. She was also included in the 2023 NCECA Annual Exhibition - I Contain Multitudes, in Cincinnati Ohio.
