Meditation 1 is from the Inner Work series, and is a meditation on healing, mending, and seeing. It explores the essential questions: What is needed to truly heal? What forms of mending can lead to restoration? What must we see, both within and around us, to embark on this journey?
Guided by intuition, I respond to the emotions stirred by the materials I use, letting their textures and forms shape my process. When I began this series, it was deeply personal—a way to navigate my own path of healing. Over time, it has grown into something larger, reflecting my hopes and wishes for the planet.
Each piece I create becomes a kind of record, a tangible moment of wonder captured in time. Whether reflecting on the past, responding to the present, or imagining a hopeful future, my work documents the awe and curiosity that arise in these fleeting moments. Through this process, I weave together the threads of personal repair and global restoration, offering a space for reflection, connection, and possibility.

Reclaiming and repurposing materials to use in Natalya’s art has been her practice for nearly 20 years. Born in Leningrad, USSR and raised in New York City, she has had a thrifty upbringing which is still guiding her professional life.
Natalya creates site-specific installations from single-use plastic waste such as Arcadia Lost for The Social Fabric exhibition at ArtsWestchester in White Plains, NY; Hothouse and Speaking Of Birds for Collaborative Concepts Outdoor Sculpture exhibit at Tilly Foster Farm Museum in Putnam County, NY.
Natalya earned her BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Following careers in the New York City fashion and film industries, she embarked on her solo journey as a studio artist. Her work has been exhibited in Dairy Barn’s biennial Quilt National exhibition thrice, and Quilts=Art=Quilts at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center. Sharing her expertise by teaching and lecturing on mixed-media art techniques, the creative process and inspiration is Natalya’s way of making sure art and craft is accessible to everyone. She has taught at Hudson Valley Fiber Art Workshops, Craft Napa, Create with Cloth Paper Scissors Retreats and at the Surface Design Association Conference: Community Ties. In 2023 she was the Teaching Artist in Residence at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY where she designed and facilitated a community stitch project and six educational workshops.
Natalya’s mission is to help other artists who struggle with knowing where to start using these materials to achieve their creative vision. With this purpose she founded REPURPOSER COLLECTIVE which is a community for creative souls, artists and artivists who are concerned about the environment and are passionate about exploring repurposed materials in art. Natalya hosts SALVAGE, a podcast for conversations with artists who use repurposed materials for their art practice.
Her work has been featured in periodicals and books including Surface Design Magazine, Fiber Art Now, SAQA Journal, Art Quilt Collector, Quilting Arts Magazine, Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine, Art Quilting Studio, and Artful Adventures in Mixed Media by Nathalie Kalbach, from North Light Books.
Natalya is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), Surface Design Association (SDA), the Katonah Museum Artist Association (KMAA) and the Silvermine Guild of Artists.
